The History of Brainiac
Brainiac Live is the world’s most popular, exciting, and explosive live family science show that’s been entertaining and educating audiences since launching in London in 2008!
Loved by all those brave enough to watch – we dare to put on stage all those experiments that you definitely can’t try at home.
The show was first developed by bringing together experts in theatre production, Writers, Directors, Designers plus experts in Science Communicators and our very own UK, Professor of Public Engagement in Science.
Together we explored ideas, tried out experiments, practiced demonstrations and spent many hours in Chemistry laboratories and rehearsal warehouses blowing things up and having a lot of fun. Today many of the original team are still with us and we are also delighted to regularly welcome new presenters to the Brainiac team.
Following on from that original tour over 15 years ago, we have travelled across the UK and across the world.
Highlights include x 2 summer seasons in London’s West End at the Garrick Theatres and Palace Theatre (Now home to Harry Potter); a 2 week season at the Sydney Opera House, Hong Kong, Brisbane, Edinburgh, Abu Dhabi, Bahrain, Expo 2020, Dubai and Barcelona.
In the UK we have toured to over 50 towns and cities and have played every type of venue including theme parks, Holiday resorts, Festivals, Cruise Ships, Exhibition Centres and Arenas.
Brainiac Live is based on a simple idea – we want to explore everyday science and entertain you! We believe that if we can make you laugh, we can make you listen and if we can make you listen, we can make you learn.
We are highly experienced, passionate theatre and entertainment people and our ethos remains to create great family experiences that can be shared by children, their parents, grandparents and carers everywhere.
The connection to the TV show
Brainiac Live was originally developed from the popular UK Sky One TV show Brainiac: Science Abuse , made by ITV Studios. The live show follows a similar format of ‘science sketches’, combining laughter and learning asking everyday questions of how the world works.
Our original theatre show worked with some of the TV artists and although today we have fresh new teams, we still have a close relationship with ITV Studios who help look after our social media and engage with our old and new Brainiac fans across the globe.
